The app I decided to redesign for this project is the Calendar
app on iOS.
Apple's Calendar app is an extremely useful tool for those who like to keep track of their lives and maintain organization. It contains a number of subtle features such as 3D touching to view what events a day holds, the option to be selective over which calendars to view vs how to view the calendar overall when looking at it as a whole.
For an application that seemingly, as calendars naturally are in person, relies on quick glances and overall views of what an overall month may look like, the calendar app lacks this capability. Seemingly, it feels far from intuitive in that regard and thus feels more like an overwhelming hassle when you have to tap on each day at a time to view the entirety. Even so, when you flip the phone over horizontally, you get a weekly view rather than a monthly view. This, as it can be seen, must definitely limit the desires to use the app altogether besides for the basic acknowledgement on the icon refreshing daily to state what day of the week it is in the month. If the app were to feel more naturally intuitive, more people would appreciate using it for all its other features that remain buried under the lack of distinction and usability.
effectively, viewing the possible solutions is best supplemented by acknowledging the competition's alternative application as well.
Google calendar is more developed towards the approach Apple should take with their iOS Calendar app because it shows a preview of the events in a day during an entire month. Alongside that, it also shows you Apple's standard approach for showing the calendar along with how they'd show it in the default horizontal state. In comparison, Google has more successfully delivered a more friendly experience for the user.
The main objective here is to create a more welcoming and interactive calendar app for more usage by others who buy the iPhone. My proposal is the main goal is to streamline the formatting process of text for faster input. my proposal consists of a cascading tool bar with the different collapsable category of tools grouped together in fixed location in the tool bar. you'd tap to use the presented tool and hold and slide to select the other tools grouped in that same category.
